Jones Turns 3, or, the Wards Throw a Party in the Park!

Where does the time go?  It's hard to believe that I'm the mother of a three-year-old.  A preschooler.  A self-proclaimed big boy.  A rider of scooters and tricycles, an expert on dirt and mud in all forms, best friend to the Spoiled Labradors, collector of rocks, lover of blue jeans, future cowboy and lover of the country and the farm, my best helper, my smart guy and the thief of mine and Alan's hearts.

Jones turned 3 on April 4, and we celebrated the momentous occasion with a party in the park.  We didn't really have a "theme" per se ... maybe you could say our theme was "colorful" ... or "bunting" ... I asked Jones what kind of party he wanted and he said, "yeah!" so I figured I should just do something fun, so I went with bunting flags and lots of color, and I thought it turned out cute, and was a good look for the park!

The invite and inspiration for the theme!

Cookie tower!

A little healthy snack ...

More healthy snacks, to balance out the cookies and cake and chicken fingers!

Favor bags - everybody got a package of chalk!

The wind WOULD NOT help me out - it looked a lot cuter when the bags were sitting upright on every place setting but, oh well:  roll with the punches!

Cupcake trees!

Birthday presents!

Fabulous Birthday Cake!
It was a little chilly (seriously, in all of the pictures from the party, you can tell all of the adults were cold - we all have on jackets and have that "I'm cold", arm cross/hunch thing going on), but the kiddos could have cared less!  They ran and jumped and slid and just generally had a blast!  Jones LOVES the playground, and he LOVES it even more when there are lots of kids to play with, so he was in heaven - as one should be on their birthday!

Sliding, his absolute favorite unless you count:

Running!  He says, "I'm fast!"

Jones and his bestie, Hunter.  They were pretty much inseparable at the party!

Showing Daddy the proper way to go down the slide?!

This bridge used to make him kind of nervous, because it kind of sways when you walk on it, but he was fearless today!  Probably all of the sugar ... ha!

Sweet Birthday Boy!

Besties on the move!

Superman!  (No 3-year-olds were harmed in the taking of this picture)

Tons of playground equipment, and ALL of the kids were fascinated by this rope ... they played a semi-tug-of-war for a long time and were endlessly entertained!

After we let them play for a while, it was time for food ...

Then it was time for cake!

He loves this part of birthday parties - where everyone sings!  But he was a little shy with everyone looking at him and singing.  You can tell it in these pictures - his face has this half thrilled, half embarrassed look on it.  Sweet Carter in the picture next to him was my helper in rallying everybody for singing and cake time - apparently that's one of his favorite parts as well!

Making a wish!

And blowing out the candles!

Nana helped him with his cake ...

The birthday boy got to have a piece of cake, a cupcake, and multiple cookies ... can you say, "sugar high!"?

We opened one present at the party, but that's it since none of the kids were that into it, including Jones - they just wanted to get back on the playground and get to playing!

This face!  He was so excited to see that he had gotten a scooter!

We're so glad that our families made the effort to come out and celebrate our big guy.  We love y'all!

It's hard to believe that 3 years have gone by since the day that changed us forever ... for the better!  We frequently comment that we aren't sure what we did before we had our Joneser!  Now our days are filled with trips to the park, and playing in the yard, tee ball and swim lessons and playing trucks and zookeeper and dinosaurs and planes, trains, and automobiles, and coloring and cartoons and just ... being ... living life and loving life with the J-Man!  He is so precious to me and Alan, and our families, and the joy he brings us every day ... I could never find the words to describe it ... I guess the closest one would be:  love.

Love and happy days, y'all!
