Jones is 14 Months Old, or, What's Going on With Jones in June of 2012

Jones is 14 months old (almost 15 months old ... I'm a little slow on blogging, as per usual)!

At 14 months, Jones:
  • Probably weighs around 25 pounds; he wears a size 4 diaper.
  • Seems to be pretty tall - when people see him who haven't seen him in awhile, they usually exclaim that he's gotten tall and skinny, so I think he's pretty tall for his age, but I have no measurements to back that up. His clothes, he still can wear all of the 12 months stuff, but 12 - 18 months fits him a little better, especially pants, because he needs the longer length. It's not a big deal right now because he wears shorts pretty much all of the time since it's like 110 degrees every day.
  • Walks everywhere all of the time, except when he's running everywhere. He is always, always, always in motion, if he's awake.

  • Has acquired some pretty sweet habits: (1) If you are sitting on the floor with him, he will come over and sit in your lap and lean back against you (only for a minute - see the above statement about he is always in motion ... but it's a very sweet minute); (2) Will give you kisses - he's an open-mouth kisser, he leans into you like Jaws. This has resulted in him biting a couple of people because he will lean in open-mouthed and then start to close his mouth and he'll get you. This always upsets him because it generally upsets the person he's biting. So we're working on that; (3) Hugs you around the neck. So sweet.
  • Doesn't really seem to give a fig about any of his toys. His favorite thing to do is to check out all of the cabinets in the kitchen, play with the window-blinds, take all of the dish towels off the hangers and run around with them, unroll the toilet paper, tear up the newspaper. He does like his stuffed animals more and more, since he can carry them around with him while he's doing all of that other stuff. He likes both of his talking dogs and Elmo the best, I would say. He likes musical instruments, if you can get him to slow down and play with them, which we can if Alan and I or my mom and I sit down on the floor with him and start playing a couple of the instruments and then get him in on it (usually on the drums) - we joke that we are the Fresh Beat Band.
  • Is a good eater; favorites include chicken, ravioli, spinach (I would say this is his favorite food, honestly ... he can't get enough of it, like Popeye), PB & J, green vegetables (green beans, peas, spinach, turnip greens), barbecue (pulled pork and baked beans), and Mexican food (especially the rice).
  • Is a good sleeper. He goes down between 8:30 and 9:00 every night and sleeps through the night. We eliminated the nightly bottle this month and it was no trouble at all, thankfully. Our new bedroom routine goes: bath, storytime while he drinks a sippy cup of warm milk, and then he gets a paci and rocking until he goes to sleep. It was really not a problem, for which we are very thankful.
  • Says "mama" and "dada" with discrimination (usually when he's tired or sad or wants something), says "Ah-wie" and "Yay-yah" (Augie and Layla); other words this month (and, you must understand, lots of times I think only Alan and I would be the only ones who can understand what he's saying) include badger and biscuit. I try to get him to say stuff all of the time, but he just gives me a clever little smile and ducks his head, so I think he could probably say more but doesn't want to, for whatever reason.

  • Loves, loves, loves the swimming pool. He has no fear at all, and loves to splash and kick and just be in the water. His daycare has "water days" on Fridays and they have reported that he just loves it and just has the best time playing in the water.
  • Loves the spoiled labradors - he gets super excited when we let them inside, and he gets even more excited when they start playing with eachother and get excited. He gets right in the big middle of them, and they all kind of knock eachother around and waller eachother and just have a big time.
